Testing, testing, 1,2,3.

This morning I have been testing potential French Horn pupils. The region offer primary kids (P6 who I think are 9yrs old) the opportunity to test out 'endangered species' instruments. I was in a room and 2o-30 kids approx came to try horn, and my job was to get them to try playing it and to say 'yes' or 'no' to whether we should call them back.

I actually enjoyed it quite a lot. And many of the kids were great!

The point of the exercise is to select children who will be offered the chance to have lessons for a year for free. They'll get the instrument, and the lessons for the year paid for by the region. It's a great initiative - unlike anything we were offered back in the Shire. Having taught some of last year's selection I definitely think it's worthwhile.

Sounds like a great way to introduce kids to music and instruments.

French horn...how absolutely fabulous!!! That instrument is gorgeous! How many kids did you pick to come back?

Quite a few - I think they give a large number of kids the chance. I believe the numbers are limited only by the number of instruments they have. So I only didn't pick kids who didn't realy want to try, or who really struggled to produce the notes... You want to give the chance to children who seem interested.

Wow, they are really fantastic to take up that opportunity to get their hands on trying French horn. That's really amazing! And the region is so nice to pay for their music lessons.

All I can say is "Wow!". =D

I love the French Horn! Were there some kids who had never played before? I played trombone and loved it!
