How I Started Blogging

Cats on Tuesdays is underneath this one today.

This meme's Annelisa's... forgot to add that sentence yesterday so I unduly got credit today......!

How/ why did you get sucked into the blogging whirlpool?
How long ago did you start?
Who introduced you?
Who was your very first visitor, and do you both still visit each other?
How has your blog changed from your first posts, and did you envisage it developing the way it has?
Have you any other blogs and, if so, what is their purpose?

The rules:

Answer the questions
Tag if you want, or leave it open for people to choose to do it or not ...however you feel comfortable.
Leave a comment on this post when you've done the meme
Link back to this post
, so people can see when and why it started.

1. How I started blogging.

(My first post). My little brother had to start a blog as part of his course. He has a friend called Ryan, who has a link on my brother's blog. One day Ryan posted a cryptic message about a funny (drunk) story but didn't give full details. The blog did not allow anonymous comments. For this reason, and this reason alone, I signed up to Blogger.

Of course, having signed up I thought I should give it a try. I had heard about a national blogging day set up by the British Library, so joined in. You had to blog about your day (all on the same day). The idea was to set up a record of normal life.

2. How long ago did you start?

My counter will give you the precise time, but I think it's just over 7 months ago. Around the same time as Annelisa I noticed.

3. Who introduced you?

My wee brother.

4. Who was your first visitor and do you still visit each other?

J-F Le Fahler was my first visitor - responding to a comment I left admiring his photos. This blog was not updated much after I found it so I don't visit any more.

My second (and very important) visitor was: ANNELISA. I found Annelisa's blogs when browsing Cancer Research. She was raising money by shaving off all her hair. I realised straight off that she was a total nutter with a very big heart. And yes, I still visit her blog. Often. I would recommend that everyone read it, though I know many already do.

After a month or so I stumbled across the Soul Patrol and their multitude of blogs: Turnbaby, Trav, Anndi, Bond, Coco, Dixie, Maryfly, Pia, most recently! Julie(Listed the people I've visited rather than the WHOLE patrol). That was when I got really hooked!

5. How has your blog changed from your first posts, and did you envisage it developing the way it has?

I don't think my blog has changed all that much. I like having it though as reading my archived posts is great fun. I'm forgetful, and this should help me keep a record of what's been going on, and what has been important to me. I treat it as an online diary but with the knowledge that my parents read it!

6. Have you any other blogs and, if so, what is their purpose?

No! I don't think I'd have the time - and I don't write any fiction or poetry, and have nothing more I'd like to share really. I've considered music blogging, but I'm happy just to post clips on this blog. I don't tell anyone about this blog. I've shown a couple of friends but haven't passed on the address. To my knowledge the only real life people I know who read it (occasionally) are three friends and my family.

I know this is a topic that quite a few people have touched on before in posts, but I have found it interesting. I would love to know more about why people blog but the bit that interests me more is the who introduced you to blogging, and the who was your first commenter and are you still in touch bits. Pls leave me a link in comments if you have a relevant post (new or old) as I'd love to have a read.

(p.s. Just read Turnbaby's post...gonna nick the idea of linking up the first post you made.)

Nobody introduced me and I didn't even know what a blog was or blogging meant. I was looking for documentation of Egyptian cats ! and from chat rooms to forems I suddenly found myself with a Yahoo blog and didn't know what to do with it ! and as I always sign in to everthing and think it over afterwards I suddenly discovered Blogger, signed in and wrote about my cats. Nobody read me of course. I didn't even know that I had to comment and make some publicity for my blog. But again as I had subscribed to a lot of search machines too, some lost souls found me. And then it started very slowly . I then split my cat blog and created Writer Cramps, that was last year in September. The first person who commented on my blog was a certain "The cleaning lady" but she doesn't blog anymore. Today I know what a blog is and also what blogging means, lol !

My SP brothers and sisters got me started and now I can't stop. Now my link list outside of the gang keeps growing too.

I really enjoy stumbing across new bloggers.

But I find it sad when bloggers fall away and stop posting. I hang onto the links, hoping they've just taken an extended vacation and will come back.

Wow- love the post! I knew your brother had something to do with why you started, but now I know why! (Did you ever find out what the amusing story was??? :-D)

Thank you so much for doing this post, TC - it's a really good one, and I've thoroughly enjoyed reading your answers. I'm going to do a link back from the original post to here.

It's good to see others' stories here too (unfortunately, I haven't had people leaving comments on mine, so I don't know who else has done it... I love a good read) Maybe I should google it!

Hope you're having a good week. It's half term, and I (unexpectedly) have the kids staying with me all week, instead of going to their dad's, so (while I'm loving doing stuff with them) I'm not having as much blogging time as I looked forward to :-(

btw - I had a good chuckle over your answers - thanks - made a good start to my day! :-D

It's so cool to hear people's stories about how they began blogger. Everyone has such different beginnings.

Your answers are pretty interesting! =) It's really fun to go back to the roots of this blog and try to recall the very beginning.
