Thursday Thirteen #17

Thursday Thirteen - Thirteen random things because it's a Thursday but I really want to post general musings.

1. I am at home in Buckinghamshire with my Mum and Dad this weekend.

2. They are at work today so I can sit and blog all morning and practise trumpet all afternoon.

3. Last night when I got home it was after 10pm. Mum had salad etc ready for me which was very much appreciated!

4. Today is Ma's birthday. We celebrated her birthday at midnight with some wine... prior to this we had been drinking wine too... She got a pretty good haul of gifts but is working til 9pm tonight. I was hoping for birthday inspiration but I really can't think of anything nice to do when she'll be tired & she's on a diet so doesn't want nice dinner. I'll keep thinking.

5. I was goaded into playing Vivaldi double tpt concerto (1 part only) around midnight yesterday along with a Maurice Andre CD... The things you do after a drink! Ok: The things I do after a drink!

6. I'm listening to some really bad music. My brother has left his computer here and he has an amazing array of shocking tunes. At the moment it's 'Could it be Magic'.

7. Whilst listening to bad music I am looking out of the window at the birds nest in the ivy right outside. There are blackbirds nesting in it and it's very exciting seeing them coming in and out.

8. Mum is on a diet on which you can eat as much as you want as long as it's really tasteless boring food... which means there is nothing nice to eat in the house. I know it'll do me good, but it's still slightly disappointing as if she were on a normal calorie counting diet at least there might still be some nice food in small quantities.

9. Quite a lot of this music is bad enough to make me stop typing to skip track. It's now 'Don't give up on us baby'.

10. OH MY GOD! He has his media player set on random selection... and the next track to come up is a sort of techno-remix of 'I'VE GOT A BRAND NEW COMBINE HARVESTER!!!' This is taking the piss.

11. I think the healthy food situation is making me more hungry than I would have been if I hadn't looked to see what was here... It's quite early and breakfast cereal is good normally.

12. The plan for this weekend is to try to take a bit of a break, as I've been stressed out lately. I love playing but sometimes it's hard to weigh up how much work you take on against how much money you will make from it against how good it will be for you to do it against how much you do or don't want to do it.

13. So - if you have any fun games for me to play that are non-music-related please let me know! Actually I think I have some questions to write for that interview meme... perhaps I should get onto that now.

Get the Thursday Thirteen Code here

:-) Sounds like a nice relaxing day ahead - might I suggest you have a painting splash-around with this art site: Jackson Pollock - I did it for a meme a couple of days ago...and had quite mixed feeling about it - great fun to splatter paint... you might feel in the mood for that....

Your mum's birthday, eh? Shame she has to work so late today, isn't it! :-( Maybe just a film and a drink tonight? Something she really wants to see?

My sister's on a really good diet - I can't remember what it's called, but you have to eat every couple of hours (and she's allowed flapjacks, so guess what she eats a lot of!) - she lost 6lbs in the first weigh-in...amazing! She said it wasn't so hard work either, cos you don't get hungry.

So, you know you went mushrooming, do you eat 'funny looking' mushrooms? I used to pick and eat 'shaggy ink caps' when I was at Stirling, because my dad used to cook them - you should have seen the look of horror on the other students' faces!! :-D (Ok, they don't taste that brilliant, and part of the reason I ate them was just because of seeing other people's faces, and the concern they had that I was about to poison myself... Also, if you keep those little gems too long, they create the most wonderful mess of the fridge!! (I discovered :-) )

Have a really nice day/ weekend - hope you manage to put your feet up a bit!

Oh, I just saw from my other post you've already had the 'fun' with the JP - came to the same conclusion as you - a load of old pollocks! :-D

Have hope, there's usually something edible in a house, you just have to be creative....any bread and jam? Peanut butter? Ice cream in the freezer?

LOL, you sound like my boys, "there's nothing to eat in this house!" I have been on a diet for 6 months.

Have you tried the set game? It's tricky at first. http://www.setgame.com/set/puzzle_frame.htm

#12...I am so totally there with ya. I have an odd job that I love, but it's hard to decide when it's worth it.

Happy Birthday, Top Mom!

As for the bad music... what can I say? I don't listen to that stuff, either! Maybe... go outside? Will the laptop reach?

Carmen, Dawn & Palmtree - Thanks! I'll pass on the happy birthdays.

Annelisa - that diet sounds fab... think it'll work long term? Never found any dodgy mushrooms to try but I have an expert on hand in case we come across anything *interesting*!

JennyMcB - found some nice stuff in the fridge in the end... I hadn't looked very hard to be honest! I'm playing the set game now but am stuck on 5 sets.

Boltbabe & Daisy - nice to meet you!

SHG - no internet connection here for my laptop so not much use to me really. And I brought it all the way down here on the train too.

And, your brother certainly has weird taste! :)

The only solution to your "hungry" problem is, that you take a pic-nic along when your mum is on diet, lol !

You should devote the weekend to burning your brother a cd of music that doesn't suck. Good grief!

I will defend my music collection to the death.

It's quantity NOT quality.

Happy birthday to your Mum, and I hope you have a nice, relaxing weekend.

If you're looking for a game to play, you can come play my Friday Fill-In :-)

Happy B-day to your mum. It's horrid to have to be on a restrictrd diet. You might have to go out for some real food! Have a good break and relax your "chops" from playing trumpet!

My sister's done a similar diet before... she lasted longer than any other diet, simply because she could have things other diets don't let you! When she's lost her first 7lbs (which should have already happened) she will be aloud wine again - this she's greatly looking forward to, and it's a good incentive ;-)

I'll find out which one she's using - she went up to size 20 after she had her kids, and is now ready to reduce again... I think she'll get there. It only really fails miserably when you can't have anything - nothing better to make you want it like crazy, is it! (as you're probably experiencing now :-) )

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

I am intrigued by the boring food diet. But if you think about it, it makes perfect sense!!!
