Kailani - it turned out I wasn't actually off to a good start... I kitted a good 3 inches before realising I had dropped a stitch and had to unpick it and start again.
Mrs S - I wish. Sadly my ankles are very fat so the socks will have to be a gift for a child or a very slim woman.
Trav - you'll get it don't you worry! (unless I get more bored - then I'll just give up).
