OK - I'll tell you more

Not sure if Maryam meant my boyfriend. I assume she probably did:

My boyfriend I have known since we were at school. He's a Welshman - which is important. He likes plants from a scientific side, but isn't so good at growing them or looking after our own garden. He works in a garden centre as manager of the plant area (as opposed to the gifts or restaurant). He refused to blog with me when it all started as he says he doesn't like people seeing what he thinks. He has the remnants of brown hair so keeps it short, and brown eyes with a fairly big nose and bushy eyebrows. Am I painting a pretty picture?? I like him.

We accidentally got together one visit he made to Glasgow whilst I was at uni. We drank 5 pints in Edinburgh after which my memory is a bit hazy. Suffice to say when you're pals and you do that then you have two choices: run with it and see how it goes or establish it's a big mistake and go through the awkwardness until you're friends again. We went for the first option. 7 nearly 8 years ago I think.

We don't have many houseplants. We have five - a cactus, the remains of a bay tree(above), a croton, a spider plant and a impatiens. All of which hang on to life by their plant fingertips. I entirely blame him as he should take responsibility for them when I'm only in the house a couple of nights a week and for sleeping......

Oooh - and if you're wondering why he's still my boyfriend after so long - I really hate the idea of getting married and he's fine with this. Thankfully! I think. This is a bit of a weird one: I don't hate weddings for other people (I actually like them) but I don't want one. I respect people who are married but I never want to join them. And I don't really have solid reasons for this - no strong moralistic non-religiousness or anything concrete.

As to blogging and opinions: I'm quite happy for you to see what I think. If it upsets anyone then they shouldn't be reading blogs..... Don't think there's been anything downright rude on here yet. I actually found it a bit weird that he was so against voicing his opinion blogwide. Perhaps that's the key to our getting along for so long? I'm a loudmouthed brass playing lagerlout and he's a quiet shy and retiring real ale drinker.....

Wow! You guys have been together for so many years! That is amazing! I want to see pics of you both!!!

PS Do you have a lot of plants around the house?

Bring those opinions on.

The more I branch out from my original circle of blogging pals, the more I enjoy what I'm doing. I'm now visiting many blogs from outside the US, and it's refreshing to get a new perspective.

Weddings- I never knew we shared a mutual dislike of them! Weddings are great for the food- but not nearly as good as funerals tend to be (they're obviously sad for other reasons though, so the food can only ever be a consolation).

As for expressing rude opinions- nah I can't see any on your blog now that would be put in that category......

Oh, and I should be working, but got slightly bored of what I was doing.

Maryam: Photo on its way... There won't be any of me going up ever though.

Travis: I like this too - haven't had as much chance to browse lately but I've still seen some funky blogs.

CJB: I don't blame you - I'd probably be bored doing any councilly type work too.

As to my work - four out of nine kids turned up today... so I've been pretty bored too. Wish I could get the internet in my classroom.

Whatever works for the two of you! I never really had a burning desire to have kids and it turned out I couldn't have them anyway! Do you still spend a great deal of time together? Good thing you took that risk years ago.

I'm pretty busy so we don't get as much time as I'd like - but yes, we mostly go out together and he's pretty good at meeting me after gigs or at lunch if he's off when I'm working.

Lucky you weren't too fussed about kids - I'm not sure about that one. Always imagined I would have some but definitely not ready to go there yet!!

Aw, how come? Can you email me a photo?

Wow, that's a bay 'tree'??!!

That's why I only ever keep money-plants and spider plants - soo hard to kill 'em off! :-) I actually managed to turn the top of a pineapple into a plant - took 2 years - and it was looking very exotic... then a couple of weeks ago I left it out in the frost :-( Managed to save my orange tree though (grown from a pip)!!

Your boyfriend sounds lovely! It wouldn't matter what he looked like, when he's such a sweetie (though...if he looked like Bowie.... :-)

So, you've been together a fair ol' whack, haven't you! I must admit (and I'm not sure I should say this) I think marrying my boyfriend was the turning point downhill (or perhaps we married subconsciously to save the relationship...) either way, it wasn't the best move after so long (we were together 15 years, and married after the first three children) I think a person might get complacent when they're married, whereas being 'boyfriend' and 'girlfriend' still feels like you got to work at it more... if you see what I mean.... does this make any sense?

Aha! I saw a photo already :-D Not of your boyfriend though...

He's not exactly overjoyed at the idea of me posting one. Might just do it though as I bet he can't work out how to get rid of it!

I meant to say earlier: After reading the post (in it's earlier revision) he seemed quite happy, but he says his nose is NOT big and that my nose is just unusually small.

NIce post--I personally like the way you share yourself. And I totally understand his reticence--the DH may let his picture go on the blog but that's pretty much it.

Thanks for coming and posting on my 'ranty' TT and I am glad it helped ya sugar.

you'd think you lived in a jungle with someone who worked in a garden center (provided, of course, you were into the greenery!). i'm kind of surprised you don't have more plants.

I hope you both look better than your plants, lol ! When I met Mr. Gattino some 39 years ago (I can't believe it !) it was almost impossible to live together without being married. You didn't even get an appartment ! But I didn't want to stay with my parents until a charming prince took me away, so I left and had my own appartment. Mr. Gattino I met with Schnaps (kind of Wodka) and not with beer, like you, but after one bottle (!) he remained in my bed until today ! After one year of living together (hiding all the time) we finally decided to get married, everything was easier then. But today it's all the same, married or not that doesn't change anything. Our son is not married but lives with a girl since 3 years I think they will get married once they decide to have a child.
