Shamefaced

Well I went to the doctors in the end. I am STILL coughing after four weeks.

He says it's just a viral infection, that there is a lingering cough going around. Nothing he can prescribe will help.

So having fought my phobia and visited a doctor for the first time in 3 or more years I am just embarrassed that I wasted his time!

I don't think it was a waste of his time or yours. A 3-4 week cough should be evaluated.

And now you know it's not anything serious.

Hmm.. I don't know - it might just be different here because it's free treatment but you're not thanked for wasting doctors time. We had an advertising campaign on telly in November(ish) telling us it was winter, so we were going to get colds, and not to call the doctor unnecessarily.

I think I have a proper phobia. I cried when I got back to the car because I found the whole thing so traumatic. Couldn't stop myself.

(Not a boo hoo I feel sad cry, rather the sort of cry you have when you've had to do something really really horrible but it's over)

Rightly or wrongly I won't be back unless I am in pain.

Unfortunately, it can take a long time to get over some of these viral things. I've had a cough since March 8 - 10 weeks. But you need to be checked to be sure you're not suffering from something else.

Over hear, people often go to the doctor too often...for the slightest sniffle.

I'm sorry about the phobia thing. That's really a shame.

Well my dear...i don't know how it works over there...but here they get paid the same whether it's an easy fix or a difficult fix...or NO fix for that matter.
