The early years of our time with Kandinsky. (Affectionately known as Fat Cat. She's really not fat though.)
She was abandoned as a kitten-cat at Glasgow Dog & Cat Home, along with another cat presumed to be a brother.
We took her home and fed her tuna and chicken as she wouldn't eat at first. She also growled when you stroked her or when she was eating (which made me laugh a LOT as is sounded like she was saying 'yum yum yum' as she ate). And she walked with a cowboy swagger and farted rather a lot.
About a month or so after we got her I woke in the night to the sound of squeaking from the wardrobe. I wasn't sure if she had maybe caught a mouse... but a little bit of me thought 'no! surely she hasn't...'
But she had - There were kittens in the bottom of my wardrobe. And she'd chosen my black concert jacket to give birth on (fallen off the hanger).
Unfortunately she was too young to have kittens and they were all premature. Also one kitten wouldn't come out so she had to go in for an emergency operation to remove it along with her womb.
She then proceeded to hamper all efforts to look after the kittens, by hiding them at all possible opportunities under furniture.
Sadly her kittens all died - we weren't able to keep them warm enough.

What a sweet sour story, maybe it's better all babies died. But how is it possible that in the animal shelter they didn't check her up and had her neutred ? That's the first thing they do here in animal shelters and it's even a law. When we picked up Arthur they didn't even want to give him to us because he just arrived and hadn't been checked by the vet and neutred. So we had to sign a paper and afterwards give them an attestation from our vet that everything had been done.
Kandinsky has a very cute face !
Thank you for joining "Cats on Tuesday" (I hope it works, lol)
I'm sorry to hear about the kittens. We just adopted a stray cat. Had her cleaned up, got her shots and give her plenty of love and attention, no small feat when we already have three very young kids. The kids adore their little Tricks-y (they named her so painfully obviously ... I would have picked something deeper, I hope), a gray and black tiger cat. I haven't had her "fixed" yet b/c we want a litter of kitties. I've been criticized by many a cat lover for that ... people say there are enough cats in the world, plenty to adopt from shelters/rescues. But I want my kids to experience the miracle of life. Is that wrong? I don't know.
So sad that all the kittens died. :( But a wonderful story, and Kandinsky is lucky that you adopted her. She's a lovely looking cat.
Hello!
Apparently it is difficult to tell if a cat's pregnant after the first month or so.. or so the Dog & Cat home told us.
And the irony was that she was booked in the following week to be spayed! We'd had to wait a few weeks as they were booked up and we got it free at the dog/cat home if we could take her back there. But as it turned out it was a little late anyway!!
hey nice wee story! shame that you could not manage to keep them warm perhaps it would have been better to let the folk at the cat home look after them am sure they could have managed to look after them better but hey ho
We couldn't get back to the home in time as she was having an emergency operation and we had no car (home on the other side of the city). So the vets did their best and gave us pipettes to feed them hourly & showed us what to do.
To be honest I agree with Gattina that it was probably not such a bad thing that they didn't make it.
Your Kandinsky is quite pretty! Big boned that would explain the size! Cute story about the kittens if not a bit sad! Years ago we had a poodle like that! Too young and her instincts were not so good! Thanks for sharing your "Fat Cat" story with us!
Kandinsky is a lucky lady. Sometimes one of mine tries to purr while she eats and it sounds like a growl. Of course one of the Siamese thinks he is a watchdog. He growls when the doorbell rings and runs to see who it is.
Thanks for stopping by.
She's adorable! We rescued our kitty too.
Oh dear.. that's so sad! I wonder how it feels to have a pet. I don't have any pets! =(
Thanks for stopping by my Sunflower blog. Your cat is so cute!
Kadinsky is a beautiful kitty. It's unfortunate that she was molested by a male kitty so young, and had to go through such a traumatic time !! At least she made it through, and it can't happen again.
She is a lucky kitty to be living with you, and sounds like a very comical cat at times.
Take care, Meow
Aw! Shame the kittens died. Isn't that the second time Klandinsky's done something on your concert jacket? Swear she managed to do something another time too...
Still, she sounds like she has a lot of character, yon cat! At least you didn't lose her when she had the undelivered kitten...
